Alan Byrne is a native of New York, but has spent the past forty odd years in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His degrees in Theatre Arts are from SUNY at New Paltz and the Pennsylvania State University. He worked as a scenic and lighting designer in college and community theatre for twenty five years; over time, assignments in the theatre expanded to include writing, directing and, occasionally, acting. At the turn of the century Byrne began teaching in a Visual Communications program and it was here that he was introduced to the field of computer graphics. He is currently teaching in the Graphic Design program at the Community College of Allegheny County.

As a fine artist Byrne has concentrated on painting and has shown in a variety of mediums including oil, acrylic and egg tempera. He has exhibited extensively throughout the region and has been included in shows at the Carnegie Museum of Art, the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, the Monroeville Library and Robert Morris University. He is a member of Associated Artists of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Society of Artists and has work included in the Friends of Art Collection of the Pittsburgh Public Schools.
